Description

A dimmed morning sun glows through dense wildfire smoke behind tree branches in Portland's Foster-Powell neighborhood at 8:10 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 4, 2026. Haze from regional wildfires blanketed the Portland metro area, pushing air quality readings into the moderate category as smoke settled over the city.

With Portland ranking among the five worst major cities in the world for air quality Wednesday and much of the Willamette Valley shrouded in thick wildfire smoke, relief is in sight.
