Description

A live, stranded humpback whale lies at the waterline where waves meet the sand near Yachats, Oregon, about 7:30 a.m. Sunday, Nov. 16, 2025.

When a juvenile humpback whale washed ashore near Yachats in November, spurring the community to action before the animal’s eventual euthanization, one main culprit was identified: crabbing gear, which had appeared to entangle the whale.
