Firefighters are at the scene of a large fire inside a vacant warehouse in the 1300 block of Naito Parkway, near the Fremont Bridge.

The fire sent out huge plumes of smoke Sunday afternoon, visible from miles away.

According to Portland Fire & Rescue, the building has been reported unsafe and crews will not be fighting the fire from inside it.

Firefighters will only provide exterior defensive action to the surrounding area.

Heavy fire was reported on the first floor of the building just before 4 p.m. Sunday. PF&R warned it may have sparked vegetation fires in the surrounding area.

Fire officials have requested that Naito Parkway be shut down while crews work in the area.
