SAVE THE DATE: TENTH ANNUAL MAYFLY FESTIVAL MAY 16, 2026

The Coos Watershed Association and community partners invite you to attend the 10th annual Mayfly Festival on Saturday, May 16 from 11 a.m. - 3 p.m. at Mingus Park in Coos Bay. The Mayfly Festival is a free, all-ages, hands-on celebration of watershed ecology and interconnectedness, designed to shed light on the connections between community, the environment, and water. The festival features over twenty science and art activity booths led by community members. Attendees can also make a costume, enjoy local food, and dance to live music. Fun for all ages! For more information, visit cooswatershed.org/mayfly-festival or follow the Coos Watershed Association on social media.

Why the mayfly? Mayflies are…
•Symbols of healthy water, connectivity, rebirth, and the role we can play in helping ecosystems thrive.
•A critical piece of the aquatic food web: streamside trees drop leaves in the water that feed the mayflies, mayflies feed the salmon, salmon feed the trees.
•Bioindicators: they can only live in areas with healthy water quality, and this is something that we as humans impact every day.
•Just fun! They have a crazy life cycle, live underwater for months to years but only for one day as adults--they are truly fascinating creatures! Come to the festival to learn more! Featured News by City of Coos Bay
