City of North Bend release - On September 3, 2025, at approximately 5:31 a.m., the North Bend Police Department responded to a report of criminal mischief at the North Bend Airport, located at 1100 E. Airport Way. Airport operations staff reported that several aircraft had been tampered with, and one airplane had been removed from its hangar. Upon arrival, officers confirmed that approximately 11 aircraft had been accessed and damaged, with several showing visible signs of tampering. While on scene, an officer observed a suspect inside one of the planes. The individual, later identified as Melvin Myhill, a 57-year-old North Bend resident, was contacted by officers and taken into custody without incident. Mr. Myhill was transported to the Coos County Jail, where he was booked on the following charges: 11 counts of Criminal Mischief in the First Degree; 2 counts of Unauthorized Entry into a Motor Vehicle; 1 count of Attempted Unauthorized Entry into a Motor Vehicle; 1 count of Burglary in the Second Degree; 1 count of Unauthorized Use of a Motor Vehicle; 1 count of Criminal Trespass in the Second Degree. Mr. Myhill was later released from custody. Due to concerns for public safety and his well-being, he was transported to Bay Area Hospital for a mental health evaluation. The investigation is ongoing.
