As a son of Indian Muslims, U.S. Magistrate Judge Mustafa T. Kasubhai said he learned the importance of “justice and mercy, kindness and compassion” and pursuit of a career in public service.

The U.S. Senate on Tuesday voted 51-to-44 along party lines to approve the nomination of federal Magistrate Judge Mustafa T. Kasubhai as a higher-ranking federal district judge -- the final chapter in Kasubhai’s prolonged path to confirmation.
