Oregon’s women lost a soccer match at home Sunday to Purdue, 1-0. The Ducks (5-7) play USC at Los Angeles, Saturday, Oct. 5, noon, televised on B1G+.

Oregon State’s volleyball team beat Portland, 3-1 Saturday in the Rose City. The Beavers (1-1, 3-9) play at San Diego, Saturday, Oct. 5, noon.

Oregon’s volleyball team got a Big 10 opening weekend split at home over at the Matthew Knight Arena, Eugene. Illinois best the Ducks on Friday, 3-0, but on Saturday, Oregon downed Indiana, 3-1. Next up for the Ducks (1-1, 9-2) is Ohio State at Columbus, OH, Thursday, Oct. 3, 5 p.m.

Welcome to the Big 10 Conference Oregon! Well, it kind of still feels like the Pac-12, Pac-10 or even Pac-8, your choice, but all of them are only in the collegiate football history books now collecting dust on a high shelf. Oregon’s venture into the Big 10 Conference started with an old familiar opponent, UCLA at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena late Saturday night. The Ducks picked up win number four-in-a-row with a 34-13 decision over the Bruins in front of a national (insert yawn here) late night audience. Next up for Oregon is Jonathan Smith. Yes, the former Oregon State coach who dumped his alma mater to go to East Lansing to revitalize another program, returns to the State of Oregon for the first time, Saturday, Oct. 4, Autzen Stadium, Eugene, same network, Fox, but two-hours (yawn) better, 6 p.m.

At the Nuttycombe Wisconsin Invitational Cross-Country meet on the Thomas Zimmer Championship Course Friday, Oregon junior Mia Barnett was 18th overall in the 6K run (20:30.7), and Oregon State junior Kate Laurent 28th (20:39.7).
