Job Report for the South Coast
Oregon Employment Dept. report – Coos County total payroll employment increased in February, up by 330 jobs. Private sector employment climbed by 70 jobs. Government sector rose by 260, essentially due to a gain of 260 jobs in local government education. Industries losing an estimated 20 jobs each over the month were private education and health services; and transportation, warehousing, and utilities. Industries adding jobs in February included professional and business services (+60), leisure and hospitality (+30), and construction (+20). Coos County payroll employment rose by 220 jobs over the past year. Gains were estimated in professional and business services (+90), private education and health services (+60), leisure and hospitality (+40), and wholesale trade (+30). Industries with job losses since February 2023 included manufacturing (-60), retail trade (-30), and financial activities (-30). Curry County payroll employment added 90 jobs in February. Accommodations and food services added 20 jobs, as employment began its seasonal upturn. Mining, logging, and construction added 20 jobs over the month. Over the past year, Curry County lost 170 payroll employment jobs. Industries with estimated job gains included private education and health services (+20) and wood product manufacturing (+20). On the other hand, a few industries showed slight job losses since February 2023, including retail trade (-110), construction (-70), and leisure and hospitality (-40).
