Brad Parry is the inaugural winner of the $50,000 Schnitzer Prize of the West. Parry is leading a restoration project at the site of the 1863 Bear River Massacre in Preston, Idaho.

More than 400 Shoshone people were killed at the Bear River Massacre in Preston, Idaho, in 1863, one of the deadliest acts of violence against Native Americans in U.S. history.
