Strong winds expected to sweep through the Portland area and much of northwestern Oregon on Christmas Eve could put stress on trees, increasing the risk of falling limbs and toppled trunks after weeks of heavy rain. The National Weather Service is forecasting wind gusts of 45 to 55 mph in the Portland area. Fallen trees litter a picnic area in Mt. Tabor Park following a winter ice storm that swept over the Portland area in early 2024.
