Activists and union leaders rallied Saturday against using public funds for the $600 million arena project, urging officials to prioritize schools and city services instead.

Dozens gathered on a sparkling Saturday afternoon to decry using taxpayer dollars to fund a Moda Center renovation, calling on local leaders to instead focus on keeping Portland schools open, preserving teachers’ jobs and settling ongoing contract talks with a union representing nearly 1,000 city workers.
