Thousands of children experiencing severe mental health crises are spending days in hospital emergency rooms due to a nationwide shortage of psychiatric beds, according to new research from Oregon Health & Science University.

A growing number of children in mental health crises are spending days, sometimes nearly a week, in hospital emergency rooms because there is nowhere else for them to go, a new study has found.
