Description
This morning the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office and multiple local law enforcement partners responded to a reported threat at Camas Valley School after the school received a direct threating phone call. Following an investigation, it was determined to be another instance of swatting, and there is no credible threat to the school or community.
Swatting is the act of making a false report to trigger a large emergency response to a location. These calls are often designed to create panic, disrupt schools or businesses, and divert emergency resources away from legitimate incidents. False reporting of this nature is a criminal offense and can place both the public and first responders at unnecessary risk.
Unfortunately, these incidents are becoming increasingly common throughout the country. This marks the third instance of swatting in Douglas County within the past week.
The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office takes all threats seriously and will continue to respond accordingly to ensure the safety of our schools and community.
