Description

Algae blooms have become a familiar summer problem in Portland. In recent years, recurring outbreaks in the Ross Island lagoon have sent bright green clusters of cyanobacteria into the Willamette River. The blooms can produce toxins that sicken people, poison birds and kill dogs.
