The Zymoglyphic Mermaid is one of Jim Stewart’s best known works, housed Inside his Zymoglyphic Museum in southeast Portland.

There’s just something about the Zymoglyphic Mermaid. It’s alien, it’s alive. It’s uncanny, but somehow familiar. You can’t look at it, but you can’t look away. And it is certainly, without a doubt, weird.

Happy birthday, Tualatin! Our City officially became an incorporated municipality of Washington County in 1913. Interestingly, a driving factor in the vote to incorporate was alcohol. At the time, people living outside of incorporated cities were prohibited from selling liquor. Tualatin residents were split on whether or not to incorporate into Washington County, which was a “wet” county, so the issue went to a heated election. On August 18th, 1913, the election results determined the official incorporation of the City of Tualatin, making today the City’s 112th birthday! Cheers!
