As Rosh Hashanah approaches, Jewish students across Portland are embracing the significance of apples and honey, two symbols deeply embedded in the holiday’s traditions. To celebrate the Jewish New Year, over 60 undergraduate students from multiple campuses gathered Sunday afternoon for an apple-picking event organized by PDX Hillel, sharing stories, traditions and personal reflections on what these foods mean to them.
