UO release - By: Rob Moseley:  The second week of preseason practice began for the Oregon football team Monday, just three weeks removed from the first game week of the regular season as the Ducks prepare for their regular-season opener Aug. 30.  Monday's practice followed the first off day of camp, on Sunday. The team will have Thursday and Sunday off this week, the anticipated regular schedule until the Ducks reach game week on Aug. 25.  Following Monday's practice, co-offensive coordinator Drew Mehringer and co-defensive coordinator Chris Hampton met with local media. Video of those interviews is embedded below.  Some highlights from coach Mehringer … On the development of young guys after the graduation of Terrance Ferguson and Patrick Herbert: "Any organization has an obligation to continue to develop their young players. You didn't bring them here so they could be emergency situations or Band-Aid situations for the upcoming season. I think that we have a really great room in there. I think we have a really talented room."  On the return from injury of Roger Saleapaga: "I was a person that had three knee surgeries, and your first time coming back and playing live football, there's a bit of a tentative feeling. Like, is this gonna hurt? Is this gonna happen again? And the cool thing about Roger is, Roger doesn't seemingly care. He is 1,000 miles an hour, full-go. I was like, 'Hey, we might have to modify some of your reps.' And he's like, 'I don't want any of that.' So it's really cool to watch a kid that went through what he went through and come out and is running around like nothing happened."  Some highlights from coach Hampton … On the quality of competition to far this preseason: "Great. We've had outstanding competition. Young guys, old guys, there's no depth chart right now. We're letting everybody roll; different guys are going with different groups. everybody's getting the same amount of reps. We're splitting guys up working with different combinations, and the competition's been great."  On the addition of all-Big Ten corner Theran Johnson as a transfer: "Theran's been a guy that came in, he's learned the system, he's highly intelligent. Today I think was his best day. I've got to go watch the film, but just watching from the sideline, he made a lot of plays. Hopefully tomorrow and the next day and the next day are better than today was, but today was one of his better days. If he continues to go like he did today, he'll have a great year for us."
