Description
The City of Tualatin has officially proclaimed October 2025 as Domestic Violence Awareness Month.
Domestic violence affects people of all ages, identities, and backgrounds—and its impact reaches families, children, and our entire community. Survivors may experience not only physical harm, but also emotional, social, financial, and digital abuse.
Domestic violence impacts vulnerable victims including children, as approximately 50% of Washington County children who are child abuse victims also live in homes with domestic violence.
In 2024, the Family Justice Center served a total of 7,204 survivors and the Domestic Violence Resource Center provided 9,110 crisis services to survivors despite challenges due to the pandemic. Domestic violence remains one of the most complex and dangerous challenges faced by law enforcement and victim service providers, requiring a coordinated community response.
This month is an opportunity to raise awareness, support survivors, honor advocates, and commit to breaking the cycle of violence. Together, we can work toward a safer, more supportive, and more resilient community.
