Southwestern Oregon’s men’s soccer team tied visiting Portland, 2-2, Saturday in an NWAC match at Coos Bay. The Lakers (1-5-1, 1-9-1) play at Chemeketa on Wednesday, Oct. 2, 4 p.m. SWOCC’s women fell 2-0 to Rogue at Grants Pass on Saturday. Southwestern (1-2-3, 1-3-3) plays at Clackamas on Wednesday, Oct. 2, 1 p.m. The Laker volleyball team picked up two home wins over the weekend. SWOCC downed Clackamas on Friday, 3-2, and then Chemeketa on Saturday, 3-1. Southwestern (4-0, 12-4) plays at Linn-Benton, Albany (3-0, 17-0) Friday, Oct. 4 & at Lane, Eugene (1-3, 1-7), Saturday, Oct. 5. The Laker cross-country teams ran at the Mike Johnson Classic, Friday, Western Oregon University, Ash Creek Preserve. Southwestern’s men were fifth in the eight-team race. Sophomore Habtamu Hurty led SWOCC in 8K race in 24th (26:39.3). Freshman Kahmussa Green led the SWOCC women in the 6K race 32nd overall (25:25.5). Lakers next run at the Charles Bowles/Willamette Invitational at Salem’s Bush Pasture Park, Saturday, Oct. 5.
