Southwestern Oregon’s baseball team (17-11, 22-16) has climbed into second-place in the South Conference of the NWAC following a split with Umpqua (17-12, 20-19) at Winchester on Thursday. The Lakers won the opener 11-4 (9), but the Riverhawks had the second game, 5-2. The two teams meet again on Saturday, May 3, noon & 3 p.m. on the Coos Bay campus. Standing in third place (15-7), a game behind Mt. Hood (16-6) in the Southern Conference of the NWAC, Southwestern Oregon’s softball team plays at sixth-place Chemeketa (8-16), Salem, Friday, May 2, 2 & 4 p.m. Saturday, the Lakers & Umpqua exhibition doubleheader cancelled.
