Description

Thanksgiving desserts aren't just about comfort and nostalgia -- they require a wow factor, too. This coiled, flaky apple tart looks mesmerizing but is surprisingly easy to build. You cook a miso-spiked caramel in a wide pan, then slice apples thinly, scattering some of them on top of the buttery sauce. The remaining apples are tucked into tube-shaped phyllo parcels, which are gently placed on top of the caramel to form a spiral. While the phyllo crisps up in the oven, the caramel-coated apple slices underneath form a sticky, candied bottom, with irresistible chewy, glassy edges. It's a lighter take on apple tarte tatin, and a perfect ending for any gut-busting feast -- not just Thanksgiving.
