Oregon Employment Dept. release - Coos County total payroll employment rose by 170 jobs in August. Gains were small but dispersed among numerous industries. Those with estimated gains over the month were leisure and hospitality (+30); private education and health services (+30); professional and business services (+20); and transportation, warehousing, and utilities (+20). Government employment increased by 40 jobs in August with gains in local government education (+20); Indian tribal local government (+10); and local government excluding education and tribal (+10). Since August 2024, Coos County payroll employment fell by 320 jobs, a decline of 1.4%. Employment gains occurred in wood product manufacturing (+40); and other services (+30). Professional and business services (-170); financial activities (-90); private education and health services (-50); transportation, warehousing, and utilities (-40); retail trade (-30); and leisure and hospitality (-20) lost jobs over the year. Government employment was up by 40 jobs. Losses in local government excluding education and tribal (-50) and federal government (-10) were offset by gains in Indian tribal (+80), and state government (+30). Curry County payroll employment increased by 50 jobs in August, mostly due to a seasonally expected increase of 40 jobs in local government education. Other published industries showed little employment movement in August. Over the past year, Curry County payroll employment climbed by 40 jobs for an increase of 0.6%. Losses were estimated in leisure and hospitality (-50); mining, logging, and construction (-20); and retail trade (-20). However, the county saw employment rising in manufacturing (+60); and health care (+50).

Unemployment rate: Aug. 2025: 6.5% (Seasonally Adjusted: 5.7%); July 2025: 6.2% (SA 5.5%); Aug. 2024: 5.1% (4.9%). Curry Co.: Civilian Labor Force - Aug. 2025: 8,481; July 2025: 8,462; Aug. 20-24: 8,387. Unemployed - Aug. 2025: 578; July 2025: 580; Aug. 2024: 474. Unemployment Rate - Aug. 2025: 6.8% (SA 6.5%); July 2025: 6.9% (SA 6.3%); Aug. 2024 5.7% (SA 5.9%).
