Description

The South Coast Health Equity Coalition is proud to announce the release of a new scholarship aimed at supporting aspiring medical and behavioral health students in their educational pursuit. This scholarship is aimed at nurturing the aspirations of passionate students and their commitment to fostering the next generation of healthcare professionals who plan to make significant contributions in Coos and Curry County. This medical and behavioral health scholarship is designed to alleviate financial barriers and empower students who affirm as Black, Indigenous, People of Color and/or 2SLGBTQIA+, who plan to pursue degrees in medicine, nursing, counseling, psychology, mental health, SANE training, social work, EMT training, electrolysis training, etc.  We would also like to provide assistance with anything that may be hindering these communities from focusing on their education. Mutual-Aid can also involve reimagining the social fabric, where people see themselves in solidarity with others and meeting someone’s needs as meeting their own. Whether it be groceries, rental or utility assistance, medical supplies, gas, etc.  Applications for the Medical and Behavioral Health Scholarship will open July 20, 2024 and closes September 15, 2024. To learn more about eligibility criteria, application procedures, and our mutual aid fund, please visit southcoastequity.org/southcoastreproductivejusticeproject  Scholarship Application: https://forms.office.com/r/whpZNfxgJg  Mutual-Aid Fund: https://forms.office.com/r/qyjegrSxgB  This scholarship is in partnership with Seeding Justice, Northwest American Indian Coalition, Southern Oregon Coast Pride, Coos Hispanic Allies and United Way of Southwestern Oregon.  For additional information about the scholarship, mutual aid, or to reach out about supporting this initiative, please contact Zaria Hamilton at [email protected].  The South Coast Health Equity Coalition is a Regional Health Equity Coalition (RHEC). We are an autonomous, community-driven, and cross-sector group. We work by building on the inherent strengths of local communities to meaningfully involve them in identifying sustainable, long- term, policy, system and environmental solutions to increase health equity for communities of color, and those living at the intersection of race/ethnicity and other marginalized identities.
