Description

Southern Oregon University will open the Fall 2025 Season Thursday night, August 28, 6 p.m., against visiting Simpson, out of California.  The Raiders have a couple of former Coos Co. athletes in key positions going into this season.  Both are juniors.  Former Marshfield quarterback Dom Montiel, who was originally at Oregon State as a “preferred walk-on”, entered the Transfer Portal this off season and settled in Ashland.  His new teammates elected him one of four team captains for the 2025 season.  Running back Gunner Yates, out of Coquille, received All American status last season and was the Frontier Conference Offensive MVP.  He was also named to the Walter Camp All-American team.  Yates averaged 135.3 yards per game as a sophomore for SOU.  In an early pre-season poll among league coaches, SOU was picked second to Montana Western in the West Division of the Frontier Conference.
