THE CITY OF COOS BAY JOINS INTERNATIONAL CODE COUNCIL FOR THE CELEBRATION OF BUILDING SAFETY MONTH 2026 Throughout the month of May, The City of Coos Bay will participate in the 46th annual Building Safety Month, a worldwide campaign presented by the International Code Council (ICC), its members and partners to promote building safety. This year’s campaign, “Built to Last,” highlights how modern building codes, safety professionals and resilient construction practices protect homes and communities around the world. This year’s campaign encourages people of all ages to participate in learning about building safety. Anderson Avenue Sidewalk Project between S. 3rd Street and S. 4th Street The City of Coos Bay has contracted with Johnson Rock Products, Inc. to perform the work activities associated with this project. Work will begin on May 4, 2026, with anticipated completion by May 29, 2026. Work will occur along the south side of Anderson Avenue between S. 3rd Street & S. 4th Street and will include Asphalt concrete pavement, curb and gutter removal and replacement, sidewalk improvements, ADA ramp improvements, trees, tree grates, tree removal, miscellaneous demolition work, and other miscellaneous items. Construction hours will be 7:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. Motorists and pedestrians should expect delays, intermittent access restrictions, and construction-related noise during work hours. Motorists should expect delays and are advised to use caution and follow flaggers/signage in work zones. 4/30/26 - LCSO Case 26-2139 Deputies arrest Cheshire woman for assault with a knife On April 30th at 11 p.m., Lane County Sheriff’s deputies responded with a Junction City Police officer to a residence in the 95400 block of Noraton Road, north of Junction City, for a report of an assault. Deputies learned a 62-year-old male had been struck in the head with a knife and was bleeding severely. The suspect, Jeannae Marjorie Mackay, 31, of Cheshire, had run from the scene. Fire personnel responded, and the victim was transported to an area hospital for treatment. Deputies searched the area for two hours without success until a witness observed Mackay in Junction City. Deputies responded and arrested Mackay without further incident. She was lodged at the Lane County Jail for Assault in the 1st Degree, Burglary in the 1st Degree, and Unlawful Use of a Weapon. Thanks to the Junction City Police Department and area residents for their assistance on this case.
