Description

A dense mix of tear gas and smoke settled over South Bancroft Street outside the Gray's Landing apartment complex after federal officers deployed chemical munitions around 11:30 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 18, 2025. A March 6 order by U.S. District Judge Amy Baggio restricted federal officers from deploying tear gas or other chemicals that could seep into the complex, but that order is now on hold.

The owner of an apartment building across the street from the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement facility in South Portland slammed a decision by a panel of federal judges that loosens restrictions on federal agents’ use of force against protesters.
