Google Maps displays Lake Ontario as “Lake America” on a computer screen Sunday, Aug. 30, 2026, in St. Louis. MapQuest has surged in popularity after saying it would continue to label the Great Lake as Lake Ontario.

CHICAGO — Apple has relabeled Lake Ontario to “Lake America” for U.S. users of its Maps app, following competitor Google days after President Donald Trump ordered a new name for the body of water amid his escalating trade war with Canada.
