Cars outfitted with increasing numbers of sensors and cameras offer performance and safety benefits, but they also collect and transmit a frightening amount of sensitive personal data, (“Oregon bill aims to give drivers more control over data collected by their cars,” March 19). A 2023 study found that every automaker in the U.S. collects personal data, and most sell or share it. This data isn’t limited to driving habits; cars linked to smartphones also gather personal identifiers, contact information and calendar entries.
