With the threat looming of an unbidden Oregon National Guard deployment in Portland, I’ve seen several back-and-forths on social media and television about what life is really like here. Is it idyllic? Is it hell? To my ear, this is a largely fruitless conversation, (“TikTok users share their views of ‘war-ravaged Portland,’ and spoiler: It’s quite nice here,” Sept. 30).
