Please don’t blame National Guard soldiers if they are deployed to Portland, (“Oregon general’s testimony that National Guard troops ‘will be protecting any protesters’ gains traction online,” Oct. 8). I hope it doesn’t happen. But if it does, please understand that they are being ordered to protect federal property, not to commit war crimes.
