I noted with interest the report that the city is looking into taking over the maintenance of street trees. It said Portland Parks & Recreation officials estimated it will take five years to launch a pilot program, (“Portland would plant 660,000 trees, reduce cost of tree care for residents under new plan,” Feb. 21).
