As an old activist and civil resister, and as someone who studies social movements, I want to register that this is a time to develop ironclad nonviolent discipline. As a member of the Portland Peace Team, I can report that when someone is protesting against the horrific conduct of President Donald Trump’s U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents, we ask them to not take the bait and scream or throw things.
