The closure of Afuri’s Old Town location is deeply disappointing, and we share the frustration of business owners who have struggled with downtown Portland’s reputation, (“Japanese ramen chain closes Portland location, blames ‘negative perception of downtown safety’” Jan. 10). However, it’s important to recognize that this perception increasingly diverges from reality, as demonstrated by significant progress in our city center.
