I was disappointed to learn of Mayor Keith Wilson’s executive order that appears to step back from diversity, equity and inclusion initiatives in city policies, (“Portland mayor orders city to align program wording with Trump’s DEI rules to keep federal funds,” July 31).

Happy birthday, Tualatin! Our City officially became an incorporated municipality of Washington County in 1913. Interestingly, a driving factor in the vote to incorporate was alcohol. At the time, people living outside of incorporated cities were prohibited from selling liquor. Tualatin residents were split on whether or not to incorporate into Washington County, which was a “wet” county, so the issue went to a heated election. On August 18th, 1913, the election results determined the official incorporation of the City of Tualatin, making today the City’s 112th birthday! Cheers!
