Description

Portland City Councilor Mitch Green has threatened to withhold his vote in support of Portland State University project funding unless the university “drop(s) the charges” against those who took over PSU’s Millar Library and caused over $1 million in damage, (“Portland city councilor threatens PSU project funding over response to pro-Palestinian library takeover,” April 22). In other words, he supports those who intentionally damage the property of others as a means of expressing their political opinions. Not only that, he is using his political position to further that support. While all of us must always support the right to freely express any opinion, those rights never extend to the intentional destruction of property that belongs to someone else. For a public official to argue otherwise is nothing less than a demonstration that he lacks the qualities that we need in public office. He should be removed at the first opportunity.
