Many years ago, my parents moved to an assisted living community in Beaverton from the east coast. They arrived weary, scared and confused. The first caregiver they encountered was a young woman who was strikingly reassuring, calm, patient and kind, offering the kind of welcome that conveyed the safety and security of their new surroundings.
