The Critical Energy Infrastructure — or CEI — hub matters. In a fire, a spill or in a catastrophic-but-not-unlikely Cascadia earthquake scenario, the contents pouring out of damaged CEI hub fuel tanks would threaten the lives and livelihoods of tens of thousands of Portlanders. It would poison our water and our air, and it likely would disrupt fuel supply to the rest of Oregon. The safety of the CEI hub matters. That’s why I took three hours off to listen at a recent public hearing and testify that we can no longer trust the fossil fuel industry’s self-serving recommendations to continue the deadly status quo.
