Step out from under the shade of a tree and there can be no doubt that summer heat is here in the Portland metro region. At Friends of Trees, we often hear from people who are worried that our summers seem to be getting longer and hotter. We talk about the benefits of trees all year round, but on the fifth anniversary of the 2021 heat dome, one benefit feels most urgent: the cooling power of shade.
