As we approach Independence Day, many people are preparing to celebrate the courage of those who stood against injustice and demanded freedom from a government they believed no longer represented them. After declaring freedom from what the colonies viewed as oppression under Great Britain, the newly formed United States continued patterns of exclusion, injustice and genocide.
