Description

Prep volleyball teams have their Fall Schedules set for the 2025 season.  Both Marshfield and North Bend are in the 4A Sky-Em League.  Pirates will open the season Aug. 28 by hosting a jamboree with Brookings-Harbor & Reedsport.  On Aug. 30th, Marshfield will travel to the Challenger Invitational, Cascade Christian HS (Medford), followed by four matches at Sheldon (Eugene), Sept. 2, against 6A Sheldon, 5A Bend, 5A Summit & 6A Sprague.  The Pirates play at Creswell (9/16) and then host Coquille (9/18) in their home opener.  League play begins with North Bend at Marshfield (9/23), followed by four straight away matches at Cottage Grove (9/25), at Marist Catholic (9/30), at Junction City (10/7) to complete round one.  Round two starts at North Bend (10/9), followed by four straight at home, Marist Catholic (10/16), 5A North Eugene & Mazama for the Marshfield Invitational (10/18), and then end the regular season vs. Junction city, (10/23). Seven at home, seven away.  North Bend schedule:  The Bulldogs open Aug. 29 at the Cascade Crossover Tournament with host Cascade and Stayton.  First home match is Sept 4 against 3A Siuslaw & 4A Hidden Valley.  On Sept. 11, North Bend hosts Newport, before playing at 3A Creswell (9/16) and 3A Sutherlin (9/18).  The Bulldogs open league play Sept. 23 at Marshfield, followed by Junction City (9/25).  North Bend competes in the Junction City Invite (9/27), then hosts Cottage Grove (10/2) and at Marist Catholic (10/6) to end the first round.  Second round opens Oct. 9 at Marshfield, followed by the Seaside Tournament (10/11), then home to JC (10/14), Marshfield Invite (10/18), at Cottage Grove (10/21) and end the regular season at home to Marist Catholic (10/23).  Seven home, eleven away.  North Bend (2-6, 14-10) was fourth in league last year.  Marshfield (8-0, 25-2) was first in the Sky-Em League and Marist Catholic (6-2, 20-4) second.  That’s also the same way they finished at the State 4A Tournament with the Pirates winning the “Blue Trophy.”

At its June 17, 2025, meeting, the Coos Bay City Council unanimously approved a proclamation recognizing June 19, 2025, as Juneteenth in the City of Coos Bay. Councilor Troy Cribbins read the proclamation aloud during the meeting, honoring the historical significance of June 19, 1865—the day the last enslaved people in the United States learned of their freedom.  
  
Later in the meeting, during the Council Comments agenda item, Councilor Cribbins reflected on the proclamation, stating:
