The OSAA/OnPoint Community Credit Union 4A/3A/2A/1A State Tennis Championships are underway at the Oregon State University Tennis Complex, Corvallis. No. 1 girl’s seed in the singles is North Bend’s Raegan Farm. The Bulldog junior opens against Ryan Lomber, Valley Catholic, in Round 2. The winner advances to the Championships Quarter-finals, also Friday. North Bend’s girls’ double team of Clark & Smith open Friday as well.

A couple of 3A State Bests were set at the Special District 1 Track & Field Championships at Florence Thursday. Siuslaw’s Will Johnson soared into the Pole Vault lead with a 14-3.25 effort. The Vikings Kale Jensen also reset the Long Jump best with a leap of 22-1.25. On the girls’ side, Sisters’ Mae Roth leaped to a news 3A lead in the Pole Vault at 12-0. Siuslaw’s boys and girls both lead after the first day. The Viking boys racked up 69-points to second-place Elmira’s 18. The Lady Viks totaled 62-points on the first day, to Sisters’ 37. The district meet continues Friday with field events at 11 a.m. and running at noon. At Brookings, Special District 2, Coquille’s girls won with 167-points to Cascade Christian’s 136. Brookings-Harbor was fifth (64). In the boy’s team race, Cascade Christian won with 163-points to Douglas with 143.5. Brookings-Harbor as sixth (46) and Coquille eighth (32). Cascade Christian’s Deryk Farmer won both the 100 (10.96) & 200 (22.25) as well as the Long Jump. The Challengers’ Sebastion Hehn won the 1500 (4:23.99) & 3000 (9:18.22). Douglas Matthew Wanamaker won both the 110HH (16.36) & 300IH (44.47). Cascade Christian took both relay races, 4X100 (43.37) & 4X400 (3:34.45). Coquille’s Jerico Jones won the Shot Put. Individually for the girls: Brookings-Harbor freshman Kaiya Evans won both the 100 (12.61) & 200 (26.89). Coquille freshman Ella Henthorn took both the 1500 (4:55.65) and 3000 (10:30.63). Lady Devils Ada Millet won the 300H (50.96). Coquille won the 4X400R (4:19.99) and was second in the 4X100 (52.85). The Lady Devils Holli Vigue was a double winner in taking both the Shot Put & Discus. She was also second in the Javelin.

North Bend beat visiting Phoenix, 2-1 in a 4A “Play-In” game Thursday, at Clyde Allen Field, North Bend. The Bulldogs advance to the OSAA First Round of the playoffs. Non-league games: Marist Catholic swept two at Blanchet Catholic, 9-3 & 14-6. Junction City won at Taft, 1-0. Molalla won at Tillamook, 3-0.

Marshfield’s prep boys’ volleyball team heads to Hillsboro Saturday, May 24, to compete in the 4A State Tourney at the Olympus Sports Center. The Pirates will take on Crook Co. in the quarter-final round at 10 a.m.
