Prep basketball scores from Wednesday, Jan. 22: 3A girls – Pacific falls at Brookings-Harbor, 58-28. 2A – visiting Umpqua Valley Christian loses at Bandon, 38-35. 3A boys’ scores – no score Pacific at Brookings-Harbor. 2A – visiting Umpqua Valley Christian wins at Bandon, 32-29.

Girl’s Prep BXB Polls

Marshfield’s girls (8-7) were among the 4A prep teams “Others receiving significant votes,” in this week’s OSAA/Coach’s Prep Basketball Polls. Unbeaten Stayton (14-0) is No. 1, followed by Philomath (11-2), Henley (13-2), Cascade (9-3) and La Grande No. 5 (10-6). The OSAA/OnPoint Community Credit Union 3A State Basketball Championships will again by played in the Bay Area, March 6th – 8th. Unbeaten Amity (15-0) tops the 3A list this week, followed by Vale (14-1), Banks (13-3), Coquille (12-1) and Pleasant Hill (12-4). Bandon (10-5) is tied for ninth in this week’s 2A poll.

Boy’s Prep BXB Polls

Marshfield has the target on their backs this week as the OSAA/Coaches 4A Prep Basketball Poll has the Pirates (13-2) ranked No. 1 followed by Cascade (9-3), Baker (9-8) and Marist Catholic at No. 4. Newport, an upcoming opponent Feb. 7th for Marshfield, is No. 9 (9-4). The OSAA/OnPoint Community Credit Union 3A Boy’s State Basketball Championships are set for Marshfield and North Bend HS, March 6-8. Topping the rankings this week is unbeaten Westside Christian, Tigard (13-0), followed by Pleasant Hill (14-3), Valley Catholic, Beaverton (11-4), Taft, Lincoln City (13-3), and Cascade Christian, Medford (10-4) at No. 5.

Marshfield’s boys defeated Phoenix, 65-12 Wednesday in a wrestling dual in Southern Oregon. Phoenix had nine forfeits to Marshfield’s one. Out of the remaining matches, the Pirates won all but one. Marshfield also wrestled Mazama, but lost 41-40. North Bend’s wrestling team traveled to Hidden Valley for a three-way. The Bulldogs downed Henley 42-30, but lost to Klamath Union, 42-35. On the girls’ side: North Bend lost to Henley, 18-0. Only three matches were contested.
