MHS 2024 Hall of Fame and Sports Auction
Marshfield Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony, November 2nd, 2024 at the Mill Casino, North Bend. This year’s inductees are the 2005 State Champion Girls Track Team, Boyd Bjorkquist, Jimmy Kellar, Leah Worthen Unger, Trevor Woods and Bob Jenkins. Doors open at 4:30 PM, with a silent auction and no host bar social; 6:15 PM: Dinner; 7:00 PM: Presentation of Hall-of- Fame Inductees.

Marshfield’s Jaxson Stovall was third at the 4A Special District 4 cross-country championships at Lane Community College, Eugene, Thursday. The Pirate junior ran the 5K course in 16:26.42. Two seniors were ahead of him, overall winner Carter Bengston, Cottage Grove (15:35.14) and Conor Thompson, Marist Catholic (15:57.63). Cottage Grove won the District title with 27-points. The Lions placed all seven of their runners in the Top 10. Marist Catholic was second with 58 pts., followed by Marshfield (78), Junction City (91) and North Bend (106). Cameron Metzgus led the Bulldogs runners in 18th (19:38.73). Lola Esplin, a junior at Junction City, won the girl’s 5K race in 19:18.97. North Bend junior Ellie Massey was second in 19:21.73. Lily Thompson was 16th for Marshfield (23:17.61). Junction City won the team title with 39-points, followed by Cottage Grove with 47, North Bend 49, Marist Catholic 107 and Marshfield 113. The top two teams and seven individuals qualify for the OSAA State Championships, Nov. 9th, Lane CC, Eugene.

Bandon’s boys won the 2A/1A Special District 4 cross-country championship Thursday at Lane CC, Eugene. The Tigers tallied 28-points to Trinity Lutheran’s 51. Reedsport was fourth (108). Individually, Curtiss Heier, a senior at Illinois Valley won the 5K race in 16:52.11. Bandon freshman Beckett Pahls was second in 17:13.68. Myrtle Pt. sophomore Eli Nicholson was fifth (18:16.47) and Reedsport sophomore Kyle Dillahay was 14th (18:50.93).

Coquille freshman Ella Henthorn won the girl’s 3A/2A/1A Special Dist. cross-country championship at Lane Community College, Eugene, Thursday. Henthorne, who won the high school division of the Prefontaine Memorial Run in Coos Bay in September, was timed in 18:57.24 over the 5K course. Alison Hughes, a junior at Siuslaw, was second in 19:45.83. Bandon sophomore Giada Moore was 12th (20:41.03). Myrtle Pt. junior Ellie Horner was 20th (21:45.67). Gold Beach freshman Coco Plaep finished 21st (21:57.67). Siuslaw won the team title with 58-points, followed by Pleasant Hill with 93, Coquille 105, Bandon seventh (157), and Myrtle Pt. tenth (235). In the boy’s race, Siuslaw’s one-two punch of senior Clayton Wilson, first in 15:35.78, and freshman Henry Stone, second in 16:46.75, propelled the Vikings to the 3A Special Dist. 4 team title with 24-points. Glide was second with 75. Siuslaw had four runners in the top six.

OSAA VB Playoffs
Both Marshfield and North Bend will have First Round volleyball playoff matches at home on Saturday, Nov. 2nd. The top-ranked Lady Pirates (21-2) will host 16th seed La Grande (7-10), at noon, while No. 5 seed North Bend (14-9) hosts No. 12 seed, Stayton (14-9), 5 p.m. Also, in the 4A First Round: No. 9 Cascade (12-7) at No. 8 Astoria (11-6). No. 13 Estacada (16-10) at No. 4 Pendleton (18-5). No. 14 Philomath (9-12) at No. 3 Crook Co. (22-6). No. 11 Scappoose (13-4) at No. 6 The Dalles (16-6). No. 10 Cottage Grove (11-9) at No. 7 Henley (16-3). No. 15 Klamath Union (9-8) at No. 2 Marist Catholic (17-3). The OSAA 3A and 4A State Championships Tournaments will be held in the Bay Area, Nov. 8th & 9th. In the 3A First Round matches set for Saturday, Nov. 2nd: No. 7 Coquille (16-3) hosts No. 10 Catlin Gabel (16-8), 1 p.m. No. 17 Sisters (11-10) at top-ranked Pleasant Hill (26-1).
