It was Siuslaw’s boys and Cascade’s girls winning the annual 4A/3A/2A/1A Meet of Champions Track & Field Meet at Sweet Home HS, Saturday. The Vikings outdistanced the field with 103-points to Philomath’s 50. Junction City was third (43) followed by Marshfield (40) in fourth. Other Coastal teams were: Myrtle Pt. 7th (30); North Bend 12th (25); Reedsport 15th (16); Newport 16th (15); Astoria 18th (13); Bandon 27th (5.5); Tillamook 28th (5); Knappa 30th (4). Coquille was runner-up to Cascade (60-55). Bandon was fourth (46); North Bend (13); Siuslaw 15th (18); Marshfield 21st (10); Newport 26th (7); Myrtle Pt. 33rd (2). Individually: North Bend senior Miles Baxter moved into second overall in the 4A High Jump with a winning leap of 6-6. He was also second to Siuslaw junior Kale Jensen (20-10.5) in the Long Jump (20-10), while Jenson was second to Baxter in the High Jump, (6-2). Siuslaw’s Will Johnson won the Triple Jump (44.7.5). Junction City junior Kaleb Moore won three field events: Shot Put (56-8); Discus 173-11) & Javelin (160-4). On the track, Myrtle Point’s short relay team (Cash Miller, Thomas Ferren, Brody Ligons, Evin Warner) ran to a 2A best (43.50) in beating Marshfield (43.62). The Pirates, however, won the 4X400 Relay (Carter McGriff, Chandler Wyatt, Jake Day, Bodey Lutes) 3:29.08. Myrtle Pt. senior Thomas Ferren won both the 100 (11.10) & 200 (22.72, 2A best), with Reedsport junior Thomas Morgan was right behind (11.20 & 22.73). For the girls: Bandon senior Makenna Vierck was second in both the 100 (12.55) & 200 (26.14), top times in 2A this season, to Philomath senior Janice Hellesto (12.41 & 25.93). The Tigers also got a win out of junior Marley Petrey in the 300H (46.41, tops in 2A). Petrey & Vierck teamed up with Claire Briggs and Giada Moore to place second (50.38, tops in 2A) in the 4X100 Relay to Cascade (49.83). Coquille senior Holli Vigue was second in both the Shot Put (38-11) & Discus 126-11) to Cascade senior Kalina Saechao (41-10 &128-3). Junior Ada Millet was second in the Pole Vault (9-0) and Emelia Wirebaugh won the Triple Jump (35-1) to lead the Lady Devils. Marshfield hosts the 117th Coos County Track Meet on Friday, May 2nd, 5 p.m.

Non-league: Astoria beat North Bend, 18-3 (5) at Stayton HS. 3A Far West Lg.: Douglas swept two from visiting Siuslaw, 17-1 & 18-3. Coquille dropped two at Glide, 17-2 & 15-5. Central Coast: SD3 – Taft lost at Dayton, 16-1 (5). 2A/1A SD4 – Bandon won at Eddyville Charter, 20-3. Myrtle Pt. lost at Waldport, 19-4. Reedsport fell at Toledo, 3-0. North Coast, SD1 – Visiting Clatskanie won two at Nestucca, 11-3 & 15-4. Knappa took two from visiting Vernonia/Jewell, 15-2 (5) & 22-& (4). Saturday: 3A – Warrenton took two from visiting Corbett, 8-4 & 10-3.
