Prep softball scores from Friday, April 11: 4A – So. Umpqua won at North Bend, 13-1 (5). Newport lost at Valley Catholic, 10-4. 3A – Taft won at Blanchet Catholic, 19-4 (5). Elmira/Mapleton won at Siuslaw, 8-6. Del Norte (CA) won at Brookings-Harbor, 17-3. Rainier won at Knappa, 15-12 (8). 2A/1A – Powers beat visiting Bandon, 13-10. Reedsport won at Myrtle Pt. 18-8. Waldport fell at Eddyville Charter, 27-24. Saturday, April 12: 3A – Warrenton fell at Clatskanie, 2-1. 2A/1A – Toledo won at Waldport, 19-11.

Newport beat visiting The Dalles/Dufur, 7-6. 3A – Elmira won at Siuslaw/Mapleton, 6-2. Brookings-Harbor won two at Oakland, 13-2 (5) & 5-0. Warrenton won at Catlin Gabel, 18-2. 2A/1A – Reedsport won at Myrtle Pt./Pacific, 2-1 (8). Waldport won at Eddyville Charter/Siletz, 5-4 (6 darkness). Knappa won at Country Christian/North, 10-0 (6). Saturday, April 12: 4A - Scappoose won at Seaside, 10-3. 3A – Westside Christian fell at Warrenton, 14-3 (5). 2A/1A - Neah-Kah-Nie won at Corbett, 7-4.

Coquille Twilight

Brookings-Harbor’s boys and Coquille’s girls won the Coquille Twilight Track & Field Meet, Friday, under the lights at Coquille HS. Twelve girls’ teams and 13-boys’ teams participated in the annual event. On the boy’s side, the Bruins (85) were followed by Elkton (81), Coquille (75.5), Myrtle Point (67), Reedsport (63.5), Pacific (63), and Powers tied Gold Beach for tenth (25). On the girl’s side, The Lady Devils rolled up 205.5-points to second-place Brookings-Harbor (73). Pacific (52.5) was third, Myrtle Pt. sixth (44), Gold Beach eighth (39), and Reedsport ninth (22.5). Individually in the boy’s: Thomas Morgan, Reedsport, and Thomas Ferren, Myrtle Point, each went one-two in the spints. Morgan swept both the 100 (11.1) & 200 (22.79), while Ferren was second in both (11.32 & 22.87). Camas Valley’s Tatum Sexton was second (55.91) to Myrtle Pt.’s Cash Miller in the 400 (54.88), but he also won the 800 (2:09.84). Myrtle Pt.’s Eli Nicholson won both the 1500 (4:48.8) and the 3000 (10:41.4). Coquille’s Jerico Jones took both the Shot Put (41-1) & Discus (130-10.5). For the girl’s: Coquille’s Ella Henthorn won both the 800 (2:26.42) & 1500 (4:50.9). The Lady Devils Holli Vigue took both the Shot Put (37-8) & Discus (125-11.5). Also, another double winner for Coquille was Ada Millet in the 200 (28.18) & Pole Vault (9-0).

Roseburg Twilight

Twenty-four prep track & field teams participated in the annual Roseburg Twilight Invitational Saturday in the Umpqua Valley. Corvallis was first in the boy’s team race with 100 points, while Siuslaw was second with 87. Churchill won the girl’s portion with 76.5 points to Corvallis with 69. Marshfield was sixth (43) in the boy’s race, while North Bend was seventh (40) in the girl’s team score. North Bend’s boys placed ninth (29), Siuslaw’s girls ninth (33), and Marshfield’s girls 13th (17.5). Individually: Marshfield sophomore Carter McGriff was fourth in the 100 (11.34) & fourth in the 200 (23.08). Freshman Jordyn Mickelson was fifth in the 100 (13.22) and sixth in the 200 (28.10). Marshfield senior Bodey Lutes made his season debut in winning the 400 (48.28, top time in 4A & second best in state overall). Siuslaw’s Clayton Wilson won the boy’s 800 (1:57.01, top time in 3A), while teammate, Maya Wells was second in the girl’s 800 (2:27.37). North Bend junior Ellie Massey was second in the 1500 (5:04.98) and third in the 3000 (11:10.68). The Vikings Clayton Wilson also won the 1500 (3:57.72, top time in 3A). Marshfield junior Charlie Hatch was third in the 3000 (10:14.85). Siuslaw’s Kale Jensen was second in the 300IH (40.23). Marshfield’s 4X100 Relay Team (Carter McGriff, Bodey Lutes, Jake Day & Quinton Kloster) was second (43.26, top time in 4A) to Eagle Point (42.96). The Pirates 4X400 Relay Team (Carter McGriff, Bodey Lutes, Chandler Wyatt, Quinton Kloster) was second (3:28.68, top time in 4A) to Roseburg (3:25.80). Siuslaw’s boys were fifth in the 4X100 Relay (Will Johnson, Michael Felkins, Wesley Nicholls, Raymundo Brito Xilot) in 43.64, which is the fastest time among 3A teams this season. North Bend senior Drew Hood was second in the girl’s Javelin (120-8, top mark in 4A this season), while Bulldog senior Kilion Phaigh was second in the boy’s Shot Put (48-0.5). North Bend senior Miles Baxter was third in the High Jump (6-1) & first in the Long Jump (21-2). Siuslaw junior Will Johnson won the Triple Jump (42-9). The Prefontaine Rotary Invitational is Saturday, April 19, Prefontaine Track at Marshfield High School.
