Some might have described the opening games for Oregon’s two Bay Area teams prep football seasons as “wild & crazy,” but let’s say interesting. Bottom line, both North Bend and Marshfield went on long road trips and secured wins to start the 2025 Season. The Bulldogs went to the tip of the Oregon Coast and took on Astoria. With time running out and the Fisherman ahead 17-14, North Bend Coach Gary Prince pulled out an early trick play to get the win. It’s called the “Hook & Ladder.” From their own 45, North Bend quarterback Conner Johnson threw to Hunter Christensen who then lateralled the ball back to a sprinting Jackson Swanson, while being tackled, who went the distance untouched, 20-17, North Bend. Bulldogs (1-0) home opener is Friday, Sept. 5th, Vic Adams Field against Gladstone/Riverdale, which didn’t play last weekend in Week 0. Marshfield traveled into the Rogue Valley to play 5A Crater at Central Point. Things didn’t get off to a good start for the Pirates as the Comets took the opening kickoff back for a touchdown and a quick 7-0 lead. However, the Pirates came back and outscored Crater for a 41-30 win. Marshfield (1-0) hosts 3A Siuslaw, Friday, Sept. 5, Pete Susick Stadium, Coos Bay. It will be the season-opening game for the Vikings out of Florence.
