Marshfield opened the 2026 Prep Football Season with a 36-7 home win over visiting Philomath (0-2), Friday night at Pete Susick Stadium, Kent Wigle Field in Coos Bay. The Pirates (1-0) rang up 36-points in the first-half against the Warriors from the Oregon West Conference, ensuring a running clock in the second-half under OSAA rules. Junior quarterback Nicoya Pruess threw for three-scores, two to fellow classmate Brandon Wendelin, from 42 & 20-yards. The 42-yard score was a perfect pass and catch under a tight defense. Junior running back Jackson Herbert had the other TD pass of 20-yards, ran for a 35-yard score to open the game and caught a two-point EP for the Pirates’ final two-points. Junior Max Johnston had the other run for six on a 45-yard sprint. Junior kicker Christian Baugh connected on all of his extra point attempts. Marshfield (1-0) will travel to Northern California, Friday, Sept. 11, to play at Eureka, CA at Humboldt State. Eureka (0-2) has played two games, losing both. The Loggers lost their opener against Windsor, 41-0, and then fell last Friday at Shasta, 42-6.

North Bend’s football team got first-year head coach Ryan Goll his first win of the 2026 prep season Friday night at Vic Adams Field, with a 35-12 victory over visiting Astoria from the North Coast Cowapa League. Other 4A coastal games had Newport fall at Taft, 21-6. Tillamook lost at Sweet Home, 40-14. Seaside lost at Junction City, 21-0. 3A: Brookings-Harbor won at Rogue River, 42-30. Warrenton lost at Scio, 25-7. 2A: Nestucca lost at Toledo, 42-34. Waldport fell at Bandon, 17-14. Neah-Kah-Nie won at Oakridge, 70-68. 1A-8: Glendale won at Reedsport, 64-0. Saturday, Grant Union won at Gold Beach, 20-8. Oakland won at Knappa, 14-13. Siuslaw/Mapleton lost to Vale, 57-8 at Caldera HS, Bend.
