Some former Marshfield football assistant coaches and a head coach, have their teams in the OSAA State playoff’s quarter-finals this weekend. Josh Line, who played for Marshfield and later coached the Pirates, has his No. 4 ranked, 6A, Willamette 10-0 (Eugene) team up against No. 5 Central Catholic 8-2 (Portland), Friday, 7 p.m., at Willamette in West Eugene, Bethel School District. In the 4A quarter-finals, co-head coach Joe Nowlin, Scappoose (9-1), a former Pirate assistant, hosts league rival Tillamook (8-2), Friday, 7 p.m. During the league season, Scappoose beat Tillamook, 39-28 at Scappoose. Scappoose’s only loss this season was at top-ranked Cascade (10-0), 59-37, during the third-week. Besides losing to Scappoose, Tillamook’s other lost was at Cascade, 35-7. The winner of the Scappoose-Tillamook game plays the winner of the Junction City (7-3) at Cascade game. The other former MHS assistant is Head coach Joe Panuke at Mount Angel’s Kennedy HS. His 2A team (7-2) played up this year to the 3A classification and finished second to Banks (10-0) in Special District 1. The two league teams will meet again in the quarter-final round, Friday, Nov. 14, 7 p.m., on the turf at Hare Field, Hillsboro.
