Prep BXB – 4A Sky-Em League

Marshfield’s boys and girls both bag home wins Friday night over visiting Cottage Grove, but North Bend falls at home to Junction City in a pair of 4A Sky-Em League basketball games in the Bay Area. The Pirate boys remain unbeaten in league play with a 79-48 win over the Lions in the Pirate Palace. North Bend lost 55-51 to visiting Junction City. Marist Catholic’s non-league game at Henley was cancelled. Marshfield (7-0, 16-2) is in first place in the Sky-Em, followed by Marist Catholic (5-1, 12-4). Cottage Grove (2-4, 8-10) is tied for third with JC (2-4. 6-11), and North Bend fifth (0-7, 4-15). This week has Marshfield at home to Marist Catholic, Tuesday, Feb. 4th, then a non-league game against No. 7 Newport (12-5), Friday, Feb. 7. North Bend has a bye on Tuesday, then home to Cottage Grove, Friday, Feb. 4th. Sky-Em GBX – Marshfield’s girls (6-1, 11-7) have a slim half-game lead for first place in the Sky-Em League following a 67-45 win at home Friday against visiting Cottage Grove (0-6, 7-11). Marist Catholic (5-1, 11-5) is hovering just behind the Lady Pirates in second place. North Bend lost at home to visiting Junction City, 57-51. The Bulldogs (2-5, 11-7) are in fourth place. JC is third (3-3, 10-7) and CG fifth. North Bend has a bye on Tuesday, then hosts Cottage Grove on Friday, Feb. 7th. Six games to go in the regular season.

4A Oregon West Conf.

No. 2 Stayton (3-1, 17-1), No. 1 Philomath (3-1, 14-3) and No. 4 Cascade are all tied for first place in the 4A Oregon West Conference girls’ basketball race with six games remaining in the regular season. North Marion is No. 4 (2-2, 7-9), followed by Newport (1-3, 4-10) and Sweet Home (0-4, 4-11). Friday night, Stayton lost at Philomath, 27-26. Cascade won at North Marion, 59-32. Newport won at Sweet Home, 34-33. 4A OR West Conf. BBXB – Cascade leads the league with a 4-0 mark (13-3 overall), followed by Newport (3-1, 12-5) and Philomath (3-1, 9-8). North Marion is fourth (1-3, 12-6), followed by Stayton (1-3, 10-7), and Sweet Home (0-4, 3-14). Last Friday, Stayton lost at Philomath, 44-42. Cascade won at North Marion, 68-56. Newport won at Sweet Home, 52-43. Newport visits Marshfield on Friday, Feb. 7th.

3A Far West Lg.

Coquille’s girls (4-0, 16-1) have taken over sole possession of first place in the 3A Far West Basketball League race following a win at home Friday over visiting Sutherlin. With the loss, the Bulldogs (3-1, 12-6) fall into a tie for second place with Glide (3-1, 6-11), while South Umpqua is fourth (2-2, 6-10), Douglas (0-4, 2-16) fifth and Siuslaw (0-4, 1-17) sixth. The Lady Devils are ranked No. 6 in the OSAA 3A Rankings, and host So. Umpqua Tuesday, Feb. 4th, and play at Douglas on Friday, Feb. 7th. Six games to go in the regular season. FWL BBBX – Sutherlin’s boys are on top of the FWL with a 4-0 record (12-6 overall). The Bulldogs are followed by Siuslaw (3-1, 12-6) and Dougals (3-1, 9-9). So. Umpqua is fourth (1-3, 7-9), followed by Coquille (1-3, 6-13) and Glide (0-4, 4-12). Last Friday night it was all road warriors getting wins: Sutherlin won at Coquille, 49-38. Siuslaw won at Glide, 63-25, and Douglas won at So. Umpqua, 44-28.

3A Southern Oregon Conference

Brookings-Harbor’s girls lost 59-35 at Cascade Christian, Medford, Friday, in a 3A Southern Oregon Conference basketball game. The Challengers lead the league with a 5-0 record (14-4 overall). Lakeview is second (5-1, 10-8), and Brookings-Harbor third (3-2, 11-9) with five games remaining in the regular season. 3A SOC Boys – Brookings-Harbor lost 73-37 at Cascade Christian, Friday. The Challengers (5-0, 13-4) are in first place, followed by St. Mary’s (4-1, 10-7), North Valley (3-3, 7-13), Lakeview (3-3, 6-12), Brookings-Harbor (1-4, 3-16), and Rogue River (0-5, 1-17).

2A Sunset Conf.

Myrtle Point’s girls are on top of the 2A Sunset Conf. with a 6-0 record (15-4 overall). Bandon is in second (5-1, 14-6), followed by Oakland (4-3, 11-9), Reedsport (1-4, 3-13), Gold Beach (1-5, 4-14), and Illinois Valley (0-5, 6-11). It was road wins on Friday, Myrtle Point won at Gold Beach, 58-24 and Oakland won at Reedsport, 58-21. Tuesday’s games have Bandon at Oakland. Reedsport at Myrtle Pt. Gold Beach at Illinois Valley. Four games to go in the regular season. Sunset Conf. BBXB – Oakland leads the Sunset Conf. boys with a 6-0 record (17-4 overall). Illinois Valley is second (4-2, 12-8), followed by Gold Beach (3-3, 11-6) and Bandon (3-3, 10-9). Reedsport (2-4, 9-9) is fifth and Myrtle Pt. (0-6, 3-17) sixth. Friday night scores had Oakland winning at Reedsport, 67-38 & Myrtle Pt. falling at Gold Beach, 48-46.

1A Skyline Conf.

In the 1A Girls’ Skyline Conf., Pacific stands fourth (5-2, 11-9), and Powers fifth (4-3, 10-9). New Hope Christian (8-0, 18-0) is tied for first place with North Douglas (8-0, 16-3). Umpqua Valley Christian (6-0, 13-5) is third. Three games to go in the regular season. Last Friday, Powers fell at home to visiting Umpqua Valley Christian, 34-27. On Saturday, Pacific won at Camas Valley, 41-36. Skyline Conf. Boys – North Douglas leads the boy’s Skyline Conference (8-0, 16-3), with Days Ck. second (7-1, 14-6). Powers (1-7, 6-13) and Pacific (0-8, 1-17) are 11th & 12th. Friday, Umpqua Valley Christian won at Powers, 55-25. On Saturday, Powers fell at Milo Adventist Academy, 68-30, and Pacific lost at Camas Valley, 53-35.

Marshfield’s boys won the Junction City 10-team Wrestling Invitational Saturday. The Pirates racked up 217-points to St. Helens’ 201.5, and Rainier’s 164.0. Siuslaw was sixth (120.5), and the host Tigers eighth (72.0).
