The late Glenn Fry, of the Eagles, had a single-release titled “The Heat is On.” That in a nutshell explains where we are at in the Oregon Prep Basketball Season. It’s winding down, and everyone is pushing hard to make the playoffs. A “Big Game,” at Marshfield tonight in the 4A Sky-Em League race. Marist Catholic comes to town. The two teams are battling for first-place with four-games to go in the regular season. The Pirates have the lead, 7-2, but the Spartans are right behind at 6-2 and then there’s Junction City, 6-3. Marist Catholic at Marshfield, 7 p.m., Pirate Palace. Both teams won on the other team’s home court. Also tonight, JC is at Cottage Grove. Oregon West Conf., Stayton at Newport. Three games to go in the regular season. Philomath leads at 6-1, followed by Newport at 5-2 and then Stayton a 4-3. Cowapa Lg., Tillamook at Scappoose and Seaside at Astoria, both 5:30 p.m. With four-games remaining, St. Helens is in first at 8-1, Scappoose and Astoria tied for second both at 6-3. 3A – Far West Lg.: Sutherlin at Coquille, Siuslaw at Glide and Douglas at So. Umpqua. All at 7 p.m. Douglas is in first 8-0, followed by So. Umpqua at 6-2 and Siuslaw at 5-3. Southern OR Conf.: North Valley at Brookings-Harbor, 7:15 p.m. Coastal Range Lg.: Banks at Warrenton and Corbett at Neah-Kah-Nie, both at 7:30 p.m.
